Brantford, Ontario – April 20,2017 – The RISE Centre located at 411 Elgin Street Brantford, On N3S 7P5, will be hosting the 2017 Across Border Global Games (ABGG) on Friday May 5 and Saturday 6, 2017. The ABGG is the 3rd biggest game next to the McDonald’s All-American and the Jordan Brand classic in North America featuring future Olympic hopeful’s from the United States of America and Canada respectively. The futures game, consisting of some of the best grade 9-11 players will take place at Saturday May 6, at 2:00PM and the main event consisting of some of the best graduating seniors will take place Saturday May 6, at 4:30PM.
On the Canadian side the main event features Hailey Brown who attends St John’s College in Brantford, On and plays for TRC Academy out of The RISE Centre. She is currently ranked as the #1 high-school women’s basketball player in Canada and is also ranked #38 in the world in her graduating class of 2017 as per ESPN.com. In The Futures game, Laeticia Amihere will be suiting up for the Canadian side. She is currently ranked #1 in Canada and #3 in the world in her graduating class of 2019 as per ESPN.com “Across Border Global Games will prove to be a venue to showcase the best in Women’s high school basketball on an international platform. The Rise Centre is excited to host the very best young ladies from the United States and Canada in a battle of the borders. The landscape of women’s basketball is changing at a rapid rate. On the American side the main event features several McDonald’s and/or Jordan Brand All Americans. Chasity Patterson is currently ranked #4, Maya Davis ranked #11, Rennia Davis ranked #12 are all Top 15 players in the world as per ESPN.com for the graduating class of 2017. In the Futures game dynamic duo Samantha Brunelle and Chloe Chapman will be rolling with the USA. Brunelle is currently ranked #1 and Chapman is ranked #6 in the world in the Class of 2019 according to ESPN.com. “The Across Borders Global Games is a tremendous opportunity for our young ladies to gain valuable international experience. The coaches and players are excited about traveling and competing in Canada. Tickets for the ABGG are $15 and are available for purchase online. Tickets purchased at the the RISE Centre on the day of the event will cost $20. All tickets are general admission and are valid for both games. Additional event information can be found at www.therisecentre.com. Lastly, The Swoosh Lounge located in the VIP section above the playing surface will have a license bar for the event. Spectators (19yr+ only) will able to purchase an alcoholic beverage, while watching the festivities below.

Basketball Camps and Private Lessons
Our camps are created to maximize an athlete’s time on court. Each two-hour session we run includes age appropriate warm-up, athletic development, skill progressions and injury prevention. All of our camps have a specific focus to provide our athletes a variety of skills that fit together in a unified system of play. All of our camps are designed and executed by experienced coaches trained in our RISE basketball curriculum. If you are looking to get a head start on your school season or just take the next step in your basketball development come join us. All of our camps are co-ed and for players with a reasonable basketball background.
Some of the skills we will cover in our camps will be:
- How to handle pressure (ball handling, passing and decision making)
- Practical ball handing/attacking 1v1 off the dribble
- Creating and exploiting double gaps
- Moving on penetration (penetrate and kick situations)
- One foot vs. two foot finishing
- Decision making/finishing at the rim
- Simple scoring opportunities (transition and offensive rebounding)
- Front rim scoring (close to the rim)
- Shooting fundamentals (shot form)
- Shooting off the catch with movement
- Playing 1v1 to create offense for a teammate
- Reading ball screen situations
- Attacking short and long closeouts
- Reading off ball screens
- Secondary moves at the rim
- Creating scoring opportunities in the mid-range and post up outside the key
- Movement off the post (Laker cuts, post dives)
- Shooting off the dribble (pull-ups)
- Shooting in game situations
