TRC Academy MBB: October 25, 2017 | TRC Academy-TRC MBB vs Southwest Academy | Brantford, ON, Canada | TRC MBB @TRCacademy (91) vs Southwest @SWFbasketball (55) TRC Academy MBB ends up with a twin lead score of 91, same as the TRC WBB Home Opener game thanks to a 30-point 4th quarter. Leading Southwest Academy 35-27 at the half, TRC maintains a 10-point lead through the first three quarters before waking up and blowing past Southwest in the fourth. Adam Francolini (20pts) was the most consistent player with 3’s from everywhere, efficient movement to the basket, and rebounding. Head coach Tyrell Vernon, “I couldn’t ask for anything more from Adam… the last two games I think are his best two games in a TRC uniform.” Steve Levnaic (9pts, 3ast, 4reb, 2stl) makes an exciting opposite-court steal, run and dunk to build momentum to force a Southwest timeout. Coach Vernon, “I think it was sparked by Steven’s energy, being aggressive; I know he hit another shot there at the end of the shot clock.” Deon Ejim (6pts, 3ast, 4reb, 2stl) is back and looking good on the floor with monster drives.. Avan(12pts) – off the bench – is an elusive and effective contributor “I can see him as candidate for 6th Man of the Year for sure.” (HC Vernon). Early in the season, Matt Grace (9pts,7reb, 2ast, 2stl) is clicking, comfortable shooting, dunking, and stealing. “It’s a good win at the end of the day. We’re still having this trouble with slow starts out of the gate… kind of taking the first blow, then trying to cover afterwards. We do a good job of recovering, but I don’t know how long we can keep taking the first hit.” HC Vernon continues, “we’re at a point when we shouldn’t have to rely on one person to get us started. I think all of us together, regardless if it’s a defensive energy, or rebound or blocked shot… we have to take the momentum from little things instead of it having to be a monster dunk from Steven in order to propel us to blow things out.” Special mention to Antoine Vernon (10pts, 6ast, 3reb) dictating pace and Adong Makuoi who contributed an all-round game with 9pts, 12reb, 5blks, 2stls.TRC MBB next game: 6:30pm at Lincoln (Hamilton) on Tuesday October 31, 2017

TRC Academy WBB: October 25, 2017 | TRC Academy-TRC WBB @theRISEcentre | Brantford, ON, Canada | TRC WBB @TRCwolfpack (91) vs Vaughan SS (49) TRC Wolfpack ladies handily win their home opener 91-49 against Southwest Academy in a very lopsided contest – in complete contrast to the loss they sustained in pre-season action 2 weeks ago – against the same. The Wolfpack are up 2-0 on the season, coming out turbo-charged, maintaining possession throughout what seemed to be the entire quarter. The key takeaway from this game, featuring high-light performances from Xianna Josephs, Makayla Ennis, and Aerial Wilson is the stifling defence that TRC was able to maintain throughout the game. Coach Lee Anna Osei (HC Lee) says, “One of our biggest strengths coming into this year, is our ability to really put pressure on other teams’ offensive players, because we have such defensive tenacity, and our intensity level is great as well”. Anyone who took in the pre-season showcase (loss for TRC) between these two same teams might have bet on the opposite outcome, but similar to the season opener last week, returners Xianna and Makayla had very welcome impact. Great Game Performers: Makayla Ennis 17pts 5ast 9reb 3stl | Xianna Josephs 20pts 6reb 1bks 1stl | Aaliyah Arab Smith 7ast 3reb 2stl | Mya Iriah 10pts 3reb 3stl | Aliyah Fraser 12pts | Sophia Zulich 7reb | Savannah Day 4reb 4bks 1stl, and Aerial Wilson making a complete stat table with 11pts 8ast 6reb 1blk 3stl. It was a selfless Wolfpack effort to see all the girls set up team play for everyone to score. Lee Anna Osei, “I’m really proud of the effort that the girls put forth in our home opener; it’s very special for us to play in front of our home town crowd, our families and friends and supporters. I think that the girls are right now, you know, we’ve got this momentum going, and everyone trusts each other, and everyone’s bought it, and it’s the “Wolfpack way”.  TRC WBB next game: 5pm Tuesday October 31st, 2017 vs Vaughan SS @theRISEcentre in Brantford, Ontario
